Coaches for your Vienna concert

Vienna Airport to hotel, hotel to the Musikverein or the Konzerthaus, back after the encore and on to Salzburg, Munich or the flight home. One contact for every coach on your trip.

For a Vienna date we plan coaches with drivers, from minivans to double-deckers. Vienna is the busiest hub in central Europe for visiting ensembles: the Musikverein, with around 1,700 seats in the Great Hall, has over 40 visiting-ensemble concerts between November and March, around 20 of them by touring orchestras. The Konzerthaus, with around 1,800 seats, announces 30 international orchestras for the season. Many school and university orchestras come too. Linz is often the night before; onward routing goes to Salzburg, Munich or Stuttgart. Indicative quote within 2 to 3 business days, checked against EU driving hours rules.

Vienna in the 2026/27 season

The Musikverein programme lists over 40 concerts by visiting ensembles between November and March, around 20 of them touring orchestras. The Konzerthaus announces 30 international orchestras for the full season. On top of that comes a group you rarely see elsewhere in such numbers: school, university and youth orchestras booking an evening at the Musikverein through a tour operator. The routing patterns we see:

  • Linz the night before, Vienna on the concert night: around 185 km, the most common connection
  • Two nights in Vienna: same hotel, rehearsal and concert on both days
  • Vienna as the last stop: flight out the morning after the final concert
  • Vienna and Munich or Salzburg: the way in or out of Germany
  • School and university orchestras: one concert night plus sightseeing days, airport on the first and last day
  • Vienna to Stuttgart: around 680 km, the long run back to south-west Germany

A concert day in Vienna, example

A typical concert day with a morning rehearsal at the Musikverein. We agree the drop-off point and access with the venue in advance and put them in the day sheet.

  • 09:30 Depart hotel, 49-seat coach
  • 10:00 Arrive Musikverein at the agreed drop-off point
  • 10:30 Rehearsal in the Great Hall; the coach waits or returns, depending on rehearsal length
  • 13:30 Back to the hotel
  • 18:15 Depart for the hall, plus a minivan for the soloists
  • 22:00 After the encore the coach is at the exit; the driver's rest period starts at the hotel

Onward from Vienna: typical legs

Whether one driver is enough depends less on the distance than on what happens before and after. We plan to EU Regulation 561/2006: up to 9 hours driving per day (10 hours twice a week), a 45-minute break after 4.5 hours, 11 hours daily rest (9 hours up to three times a week). Times below are guide values without breaks.

Worked example: Vienna to Stuttgart

Around 680 km, a routing that appears in this season's programmes: last concert in Vienna, Stuttgart later on. One driver can do it, but only just.

  • Day 1, 22:00: concert ends in Vienna, back at the hotel around 22:30. With a full 11-hour rest the driver is available from 09:30, on reduced rest from 07:30.
  • Day 2, 08:30: departure. Around 8.5 hours of driving plus two 45-minute breaks. Arrival in Stuttgart around 18:30, if the A1 and the Munich area are clear.
  • That is just under the 9-hour daily driving limit. One jam near Salzburg or Munich and the driver needs one of his two weekly extensions to 10 hours. With one driver this only works on a free travel day and with no margin.
  • If there is a concert in Stuttgart that evening, one driver cannot do it. What we quote instead: a double crew, or an overnight stop in Munich with the last stretch next morning, around 230 km and around 3 hours.

Matching the coach to your ensemble

  • 4 to 8 people, quartet, trio, soloist with team: minivan with driver
  • 9 to 25 people, chamber or baroque ensemble: 19- or 29-seat midi coach
  • 26 to 55 people, chamber orchestra, choir or school orchestra: 49- or 57-seat coach
  • Full symphony orchestra: two to three coaches or a double-decker, plus a minivan for the soloists
  • Luggage and instruments travel in the luggage hold. If there is more, we add a trailer

School and university orchestras in Vienna

Many visiting ensembles at the Musikverein are not professional orchestras but school, university and youth orchestras, often from North America and Asia. They usually stay several days: arrival at Vienna Airport, one concert night, sightseeing days, then back to the airport. We plan the whole stay by coach, day by day.

If you are a tour operator handling the trip, we quote the coaches only. Programme and hotel stay with you; you send us the daily schedule and we provide a coach with driver for each day.

Vienna Airport is around 20 km south-east of the city centre. As a guide value we allow 25 to 40 minutes by coach, more at rush hour. For large groups with plenty of luggage we add a buffer on arrival day.

Anywhere in Europe

This page shows our planning around this city. We plan coaches for orchestra tours anywhere in Europe, from a single transfer to a multi-week tour across several countries, with the same driving-hours check for every day. Our focus routes, where we plan most densely, are the North-West with Benelux, the South-East to Vienna and Berlin.

FAQ

How long is the coach transfer from Vienna Airport to the Musikverein?
As a guide value 25 to 40 minutes without traffic, longer at rush hour. On arrival days we allow for luggage and a buffer.
Is one driver enough for Linz to Vienna on a concert day?
Usually yes: around 185 km, just over 2 hours. Leaving in the morning still allows an afternoon rehearsal in Vienna, and the same driver runs the evening transfers.
Do you provide coaches for school and university orchestras in Vienna?
Yes. We plan airport, hotel, rehearsal, concert and sightseeing days by coach. If a tour operator handles the trip, we quote the coaches only.
Where does the coach stop at the Musikverein and the Konzerthaus?
We agree the drop-off point and access with each venue before the tour and put them in the day sheet, so nobody has to search on the day.
Do you also run tours outside these routes?
Yes. We plan coaches for orchestra tours anywhere in Europe. The routes on this page are focus routes where we plan most densely, not limits.
