Coaches for your Hamburg concert

From the airport to HafenCity, to rehearsal at the Elbphilharmonie or the Laeiszhalle, back to the hotel after the concert and on to Bremen, Hanover, Berlin or the Rhine the next day.

For a concert in Hamburg we plan coaches with driver, from minivan to double-decker, around rehearsal, concert and onward routing. The Elbphilharmonie (2,100 seats in the Grand Hall) is the main stop for visiting orchestras in northern Germany, with around 30 over the winter according to our sample of published schedules. The Laeiszhalle (2,025 seats) takes mid-sized tours. Onward legs run to Bremen or Hanover in 1.5 to 2 hours, Berlin in about 3.5, the Rhineland in 5 to 6 and Amsterdam in about 6. We check every day against Regulation (EC) 561/2006 and send an indicative quote within 2 to 3 business days.

Hamburg in the 2026/27 season

No hall between the North Sea and the Main hosts as many visiting orchestras over the winter as the Elbphilharmonie. Add the Laeiszhalle for mid-sized tours and, in Advent, the main churches with Christmas Oratorio performances and visiting choirs. For many tours Hamburg is the northern turning point, and from here the distances get long. These are the routings we see every season:

  • Hamburg and Rhine-Ruhr in the same week: Cologne, Dortmund or Düsseldorf two or three days before or after Hamburg, sometimes the next day
  • The northern run: Hamburg, Bremen and Hanover on consecutive nights, chamber and baroque ensembles included
  • Amsterdam the night before, then two nights in Hamburg
  • Hamburg and Berlin in one week
  • Several nights in Hamburg from one hotel, with Lübeck or Kiel as a day trip
  • Hamburg before Luxembourg and Paris: over 600 km, usually flown, with the coach for local transfers

A concert day in Hamburg: example

A typical concert day at the Elbphilharmonie. HafenCity is tight and busy in the evening, so we agree the drop-off point and access with the hall in advance and put them in the day sheet.

  • 09:15 Depart hotel, 57-seat coach
  • 09:45 Arrive Elbphilharmonie, coach stops at the agreed drop-off point
  • 10:30 Rehearsal, the coach returns to the hotel or waits, depending on rehearsal length
  • 13:30 Back to the hotel
  • 18:15 Depart for the hall, plus a minivan for conductor and soloists
  • 22:15 After the encore the coach is at the stage door; around 22:45 the group is back at the hotel and the driver's rest period begins

Onward from Hamburg: typical legs

Legs out of Hamburg are longer than anywhere else on the route. Whether one driver is enough depends on what happens before and after the drive, not just the distance. We plan to Regulation (EC) 561/2006: a maximum of 9 hours driving per day (10 hours twice a week), a 45-minute break after 4.5 hours, 11 hours daily rest (9 hours three times a week). Journey times are estimates without breaks; the real plan is built from your schedule.

Worked example: Amsterdam the night before, Hamburg on concert night

A concert in Amsterdam, Hamburg the following evening, 468 km in between. This routing is on the 2026/27 winter calendar. With one coach and one driver it looks like this:

  • Day 1, 22:15: concert ends in Amsterdam, back at the hotel around 23:00. With a reduced 9-hour rest the earliest start is 08:00.
  • Day 2, 08:00: depart, a 45-minute break after 4.5 hours, then about 1.5 hours more. Without traffic the coach reaches the Hamburg hotel around 14:45, after just over 6 hours of driving. That leaves little room for an afternoon sound check.
  • Day 2, evening: transfers to the Elbphilharmonie and back, duty ends around 22:45. That is almost 15 hours from the start of the duty and about 6.5 hours of driving. Just within the rules with reduced rest, and no buffer at all: one jam around Bremen or at the Elbe bridges and the plan breaks.
  • Result: one driver only works on paper. Our quote therefore includes a double crew for the transfer or a second coach in Hamburg for the evening. If the group flies, the coach takes luggage and instruments overnight after the Amsterdam concert, with two drivers.

The right coach for your forces

  • 4 to 8 people, quartet, trio, soloist with team: minivan with driver
  • 9 to 25 people, chamber or baroque ensemble: 19- or 29-seat coach
  • 26 to 55 people, chamber orchestra or choir: 49- or 57-seat coach
  • Full symphony orchestra: two to three coaches or a double-decker, plus a minivan for the soloists
  • Luggage and instruments travel in the luggage hold. If there is more, we add a trailer

Two halls, one hotel and the long legs

The Elbphilharmonie and the Laeiszhalle are only about 2 km apart. If you play several nights in Hamburg you stay in one hotel and the coach only shuttles between hotel and hall. Hamburg airport to HafenCity takes about 30 to 45 minutes, depending on the time of day. Lübeck and Kiel work as day trips with a return the same evening.

To Berlin, about 3.5 hours by coach is a real alternative to the train, especially with a lot of luggage. For the legs to the Rhine, Amsterdam or Antwerp we can also price rail plus coach on request: rail for the long hop, coach for the first and last mile, luggage and instruments in the coach. We do not plan a rail leg on a concert day.

Anywhere in Europe

This page shows our planning around this city. We plan coaches for orchestra tours anywhere in Europe, from a single transfer to a multi-week tour across several countries, with the same driving-hours check for every day. Our focus routes, where we plan most densely, are the North-West with Benelux, the South-East to Vienna and Berlin.

FAQ

Where does the coach stop at the Elbphilharmonie?
We agree the drop-off point and access with the hall before the tour and put them in the day sheet. In HafenCity this matters more than elsewhere, because space and time slots are limited.
How long is the drive from Hamburg airport to the Elbphilharmonie?
About 30 to 45 minutes, depending on the time of day. On arrival days we allow time for luggage and instruments and usually go to the hotel first.
Can one driver handle Amsterdam to Hamburg?
On a free travel day, yes, with a break. If there is a Hamburg concert the same evening, one driver only works with no buffer. In that case we price a double crew or a second coach in Hamburg.
Can one coach do Hamburg, Bremen and Hanover on three nights?
Yes. With 120 to 150 km between the cities each leg is a morning drive of about 2 hours, and one driver is enough as long as the rest period after each concert is planned in.
Do you also run tours outside these routes?
Yes. We plan coaches for orchestra tours anywhere in Europe. The routes on this page are focus routes where we plan most densely, not limits.
