From Cologne Bonn airport to the hotel, to rehearsal at the Philharmonie, back after the encore and on to the next city in the morning. One contact for every coach on your tour.
For a concert in Cologne we plan coaches with driver, from minivan to double-decker, around rehearsal, concert and onward routing. Cologne is a hub for touring orchestras: the Kölner Philharmonie (2,000 seats) hosts around one visiting orchestra a week over the winter, and almost every tour continues to the Ruhr, Frankfurt, Hamburg or the Benelux. Eindhoven, Antwerp and Brussels are two to three hours by coach. We check every tour day against the EU driving hours rules (Regulation 561/2006) and send an indicative quote within 2 to 3 business days.
Between November and March the Kölner Philharmonie presents around 12 to 13 visiting orchestras, plus chamber and baroque ensembles in its own series and in the city centre churches. Hardly anyone plays Cologne and flies home. These are the routings we see every season:
A typical concert day. We agree the drop-off point and access at the Philharmonie with the hall in advance and put them in the day sheet.
Whether one driver is enough depends on what happens before and after the drive, not just the distance. We plan to Regulation (EC) 561/2006: a maximum of 9 hours driving per day (10 hours twice a week), a 45-minute break after 4.5 hours, 11 hours daily rest (9 hours three times a week). Journey times are estimates without breaks; the real plan is built from your schedule.
| Leg | Distance | Coach time | Drivers |
|---|---|---|---|
| Cologne to Düsseldorf | about 45 km | 45 to 60 min | 1 driver |
| Cologne to Essen or Dortmund | about 75 to 95 km | 70 to 80 min | 1 driver |
| Cologne to Eindhoven | 144 km | about 2 hrs | 1 driver |
| Cologne to Antwerp or Brussels | 204 to 208 km | about 3 hrs | 1 driver |
| Cologne to Luxembourg | 201 km | about 3 hrs | 1 driver |
| Cologne to Amsterdam | 265 km | about 3.75 hrs | 1 driver |
| Cologne to Frankfurt | 191 km | about 2.5 hrs | 1 driver |
| Cologne and Hamburg on consecutive days | about 430 km | 5 to 6 hrs incl. break | check: double crew or second coach |
Two concerts on consecutive days, 430 km apart. This happens several times every winter season.
Many tours leave Germany through Cologne. Eindhoven is about two hours away, Antwerp and Brussels about three, Luxembourg about three. All of these work as a travel leg on concert day, with arrival before the afternoon rehearsal. Normally the same coach that drives the German dates also drives the Benelux dates, as one closed tour for the same group.
For Brussels and the Flemish cities we check the engine standard and the low emission zone registration of every coach before departure. If the tour continues to Hamburg or Berlin, we can also price rail plus coach on request: rail for the long hop, coach for the first and last mile. We do not plan a rail leg on a concert day.
This page shows our planning around this city. We plan coaches for orchestra tours anywhere in Europe, from a single transfer to a multi-week tour across several countries, with the same driving-hours check for every day. Our focus routes, where we plan most densely, are the North-West with Benelux, the South-East to Vienna and Berlin.
